Amy Mickelson, the wife of three-time golf champion Phil Mickelson, a supporter and friend to many, and mom of three has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Sports fans all over the world are saddened by this news and Mickelson puts the rest of his PGA tour on hold. According to an article on the ESPN website, Sarah Strange, a breast cancer survivor and wife of former Ryder Cup captain Curtis Strange, said "Amy Mickelson's outgoing personality would play a big part in her recovery. She's such an upbeat person, and I think she'll approach this in the same way, moving forward with confidence." Amy will continue to have tests over the next two weeks. Hopefully, with the support of family and friends, she will get through this difficult time.
Unfortunately, Phil is not the only pro golfer with a family relation to cancer. Phil’s best enemy, Tiger Woods lost his father, Earl Woods back in 2006 to prostate cancer. I dug up an article from Sport Illustrated where Woods talked about his beloved father, "My dad was my best friend and greatest role model, and I will miss him deeply," Tiger Woods said on his Web site. "I'm overwhelmed when I think of all of the great things he accomplished in his life. He was an amazing dad, coach, mentor, soldier, husband and friend. I wouldn't be where I am today without him, and I'm honored to continue his legacy of sharing and caring." Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson were paired together at the Augusta National on April 09, 2009. Woods is more logical, calm and practical and Mickelson more eccentric and harder to predict, but perhaps instead of remaining the best of enemies, Woods will be supportive while Phil is going through this painful time. We will continue to keep you up to date on Amy’s status!
